Groundskeeper
Reports to: Maintenance Lead
Qualifications
The Groundskeeper should be able to:
- Perform demanding physical labor and tasks/skills required to keep the grounds and building exterior maintained and clean.
- Handle minor building maintenance jobs.
- Assume responsibility to initiate cleaning tasks and procedures, as assigned.
- Work with a minimum of supervision.

- Clearance on background check that is satisfactory to the Administration.
- Possess positive character traits that are student-centered.
- Possess ability to interact and communicate effectively with others.
- Maintain a valid state Driver’s License.
- Wear effective protective gear, including but not limited to eyewear, ear protection, and protective clothing, when performing essential job functions.
Essential Functions
- Report to work appropriately dressed and in proper condition to perform all assigned duties.
- Open the building and check all assigned areas for proper working condition.
- Efficiently organize the daily routine and the work schedule.
- Ensure proper maintenance of grounds and building equipment within responsible area and notify the Maintenance Lead of maintenance/grounds needs outside responsible area.
- Mow lawns, weed eat, trim edges, maintain flower beds, prune trees and shrubs, mulch, and apply fertilizers and pesticides to maintain healthy plant growth and a neat outdoor appearance.
- Remove weeds, leaves, trash, and debris from outdoor areas, as needed.
- Operate mowers, tractors, truck and trailers, power washers, weed eaters, edgers, leaf blowers and other power tools and hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Irrigate lawns and gardens, as required.
Ensure proper use, cleaning, requisition, and storage of all equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Ensure proper maintenance of all assigned areas.
- Maintain communication with Maintenance Lead concerning questions about grounds upkeep and exterior building cleaning program.
- Ensure proper security of building at all times. Check appropriate doors and windows. Assure that students and/or unauthorized persons are not admitted to the buildings.
- Perform additional custodial duties when assigned by the supervisor or administrators.
- Perform both custodial, grounds, and maintenance duties during the summer months and assigned school vacation days.
- Adhere to special work schedule in the summer months and assigned school vacation days, as requested.
- Perform any reasonable incidental duties assigned by the District, including but not limited to maintenance and/or grounds duties, additional custodial duties, etc.

The individual who holds this position:
- Is regularly required to walk, hear and speak.
- Must have close moderate and distance vision ability.
- Must be able to travel between district facilities.
- Must be able to communicate in noisy environments such as construction sites.

Conditions and Environment
The individual who occupies this position will regularly be required to work outside occasionally in inclement weather including rain, snow and temperatures below freezing or in excess of 100 degrees.
Evaluation of Performance and Employment
The evaluation of performance and consideration for employment will be under the jurisdiction of the Maintenance/Transportation Director in consultation with the Superintendent.
